Logwatch reports you will actually open

Logwatch summarises the day's logs and emails the result. It is a genuinely good tool with one predictable failure: the mail arrives every morning, it is long, and after a fortnight it is filtered into a folder nobody visits. The information was never the problem — the delivery was.

This page keeps the reports on the server and shows them as pages, with the archive of previous days beside the current one. Sections are laid out so the parts worth reading are reachable without scrolling past the parts that never change.

On most servers the sections that repay attention are SSH activity, sudo usage, service errors and disk space. The rest is largely confirmation that ordinary things happened normally. Being able to move back through previous days matters more than it sounds: a single day of logs tells you what happened, while a week of them tells you what changed — and change is usually the thing that turns out to matter.
